Electronic Arts

Founded by an old Apple Employee, Trip Hawkins, EA developed/published a verity of games and productivity software for personal computers. Later they experimented in developing games internally, leading to Skate or Die, released in 1987. Electronic Arts later abandoned their original principles by acquiring smaller companies that they saw as profitable and would close when they felt where no longer profitable.
